Open Evaluation 2016

Techgate Vienna

November 24, 2016 – November 25, 2016

Open Evaluation 2016, the largest conference in Europe dedicated to the evaluation of policies in the field of research, technology and innovation policy (RTI) will gather academics, evaluators, research managers, authorities and RTI policy makers to debate challenging developments in RTI policy and their effects on evaluation theory and practice. The conference addresses new actor settings, approaches and themes in RTI policy evaluation. Thus, the term OPEN EVALUATION signals openness towards new values, new stakeholders and beneficiaries and new approaches and themes in RTI policies and RTI evaluations.

The conference takes place in Vienna on 24-25 November 2016. The main conference organisers are the Austrian Platform for Research and Technology Policy Evaluation, the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research and IFRIS - Institut Francilien Recherche Innovation Société, Paris.

The programme is set and will consist of key note speeches, panel discussions, paper sessions and a poster session. We are pleased that Prof. Paula Stephan (Georgia State University & National Bureau of Economic Research), Dr. Steven Hill (Higher Education Funding Council for England) and Dr. Liz Allen (Strategic Initiatives, F1000) cloud be engaged as key note speakers at ‘Open Evaluation 2016’. Prof. Stephan will talk about the career trajectories of new PhDs.’ Dr. Hill’s speech will focus on UK’s experience in assessing research impact. Dr. Allen will provide us with a reflection on the promise of open science. The panel sessions will examine the question if we can generate more impact of R&I interventions through better governance, discuss the changing challenges of RTI evaluation in Europe and deliberate the problems in evaluation and selection of risky research.

The conference will be accompanied by several other gatherings, such as the EU SPRI Doctorate seminar (21-23 November), the meeting of the Science Europe Working Group on ex-post Evaluation (23 November) as well as a “Science for S3” Policy Workshop organised by IPTS/Danube-INCO.NET (25 November). It is going to be a busy week for RTI policy stakeholders and the perfect opportunity for extending and refreshing your network!

The registration is open until the 11th of November – register as soon as possible! The registration fee includes all lunches and coffee breaks during the two conference days as well as the official dinner on November 24th 2016.
